Urban Environmental Performance Design
Sustainable urban design strategies ensure livable, self-sustaining communities over the long term. Our urban design methodologies use predictive urban modelling and simulations analyses to evaluate the environmental performance of a precinct, neighbourhood, and/or community with respect to solar radiation impact on urban massing, daylighting potential for the buildings, outdoor comfort, light pollution, sustainable urban drainage and urban agriculture.
One of the remarkable issues in designing outdoor spaces is considering human thermal comfort and experience through usability of the spaces. Making people more comfortable allows them to enjoy and spend more time in the outdoor spaces, socialize and be part of the neighbourhood. As a consequence, beside spending less time indoors and using less energy some valuable phenomena emerge such as wellness, enjoyment, safety and belonging which gives an identity to the design and improves people’s level of satisfaction.
Our methodologies and strategies enable us to provide input into the urban massing as well as generate design guides for the individual buildings which respect the overall environmental performance of the larger urban space.
