Precinct development

Location: Durban, South Africa
Architects: designworkshop : sa
Client: Dube Tradeport

Appointed to establish the environmental performance criteria on an urban scale for a new office and hotel precinct near the new airport.  Environmental performance requirements would be used to inform the architectural language of each new building without being prescriptive in aesthetics.

Precinct level interventions and sustainability targets were used to define an urban development framework. The large scale (300,000m2 bulk) allowed early optimisation of energy and water strategies that dictate efficient, cost-effective future development.
